THE DARKEST VALLEY

Vladimir Mysin • Dec 27, 2020

“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil…” (Psalm 23:4)

Darkness is not death. It’s just the shadow of death. Nevertheless, this is an extremely undesirable phenomenon in any person’s life. At this time, the forces of evil become active and that’s why the shadow of death causes fear in people. Even those, who are well familiar with the Scripture and reconciled to the Lord, try to stay away from such encounters. It is quite understandable, because the Scripture refers to death as our enemy, and it is always preferable to avoid meeting an enemy.

A shadow can’t appear just like that. There is a reason for every shadow. Unfortunately, in our everyday reality people often have to walk through their darkest valleys. Such valleys are a quite common phenomenon in people’s lives and they can be of different kinds: illness, finance, relationships, persecutions, slander, crushed hopes, loss, separation and many more.

Shadows never leave without a reason. Shadows disappear when the light comes, just as fog and night shadows vanish when the sun comes out. David, who repeatedly found himself in similar situations, shares his invaluable experience with us. He describes how he felt when the shadows of death surrounded him and says that with God we can walk through them and remain unharmed. He testifies that evil is not omnipotent, but thanks to hope and trust in the Lord, we can learn to overcome the circumstances of life, walking through these valleys. The light of the Eternal Truth, pouring out from the pages of the eternal Bible, has the power to cast out fears and worries about the shadow of death.

We thank God for you, it’s because of your support that the mission “Word To Russia” continues to spread the light of the Gospel truth in the world around us, helping people to walk through the darkest valleys. “The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all…”– writes David, summing up his life with the Lord. (Psalm 34:19)

Let us remind each other that all our problems are solved in Jesus Christ, for He testified to people, saying: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.” (Matthew 28:18)
